Start 2020 with Positive Energy

In a recent blog, Visioning—A Picture of the Future , I wrote about a spinal injury that left me paralyzed. I blogged about how I used visioning, to figure out what success would look like during my recovery and rehab. Three years ago, I started my yoga journey with an amazing Yoga Instructor and Mindful Coach, Briani Claggett. Her insight and instruction helped me understand the connection among mind, movement, and energy. Yoga reduced my constant pain. Her joy and passion create a learning environment that is both inspirational and challenging. Briani’s tips helped me have positive energy. She is a natural at sharing knowledge.

Below are five tips Briani recently shared to help me start the new decade with positive energy.

1.  Morning attunement. Every morning Briani starts her day with breath work, affirmations, and movement! A morning routine helps plant your identification with your higher self, instead of with the currents of your mind . . . because we all know that once those waves start catching momentum, they’re much harder to calm.

Here are helpful affirmations:

·  I am source energy. My body and mind are servants of my divine will.

·  I am a magnet for the resources and opportunities that align with my purpose.

·  I am a woman of faith, in full surrender to the rhythms of the divine.

2.  Breathwork. Deep belly breaths stimulate the vagus nerve and connect us to our parasympathetic nervous system—a place where we can relax, think, and respond from a calm space.

Inhaling for five seconds . . . and exhaling for five seconds through the mouth is profoundly relaxing and emotionally cleansing.

3.  Movement! When we have an excess of energy, anxiety can overwhelm the mind. Movement helps channel energy into the body instead. Dancing or moving outside in nature are especially useful. Choosing the movement style you find most enjoyable will keep you motivated to do it more often.

4.  Journaling. Journaling is cathartic in its ability to allow you to see what’s going through your mind and work through it. Journal your candid thoughts and emotions to understand the deep levels of meaning and understanding behind them. Bullet journaling is also great in helping you organize time and tasks in a way that allows you to rest assured in the fact that you have these things tracked somewhere. Pinterest is an excellent resource if you are interested in starting your own bullet journal.

5.  Tapping. The emotional freedom technique (EFT), is a tapping tool you can use when your anxiety has caught enough momentum to have you feeling physical unrest (e.g., tightness in the chest, tension in the abdomen and shoulders, sweating).

Tapping is simple and painless. Anyone can learn it. And you can apply tapping to yourself, on different parts of your body to helps balance energy and reduce physical and emotional pain. whenever you want, wherever you are. EFT works with positive affirmative statements and energy meridians to calm your nervous system. Learn more about EFT tapping here.
